LA courthouse & filing fee reference sheet

Every Los Angeles County courthouse, what each one hears, and where to check current filing fees — compiled from public sources.

Los Angeles County Superior Court operates across dozens of locations and they do not all hear the same things. Filing in the wrong one costs time you may not have, and the answer is not always obvious from the address of the dispute.

This sheet lists the courthouses, what each handles, and where the current fee schedule lives. Fees change, so the sheet points at the official source rather than freezing a number that will be wrong in six months.

What is inside

  • Courthouse list with address, districts served and case types heard
  • Which locations take limited, unlimited and small claims civil matters
  • Family law, probate and unlawful detainer locations
  • Where to find the current statewide and local fee schedules
  • Fee waiver basics and where to get the official application
  • Filing window hours and drop box practice notes

How to use it

  1. Confirm venue before you prepare anything

Filing in the wrong location is the most expensive easy mistake.

  2. Check the fee on the day

Schedules change. Use the linked official source rather than the figure someone quoted you last year.

  3. Ask about the fee waiver early

If you may qualify, apply at the same time as filing rather than afterwards.

Common questions

Why does this not just list the fee amounts?
Because they change, and a stale number in a PDF is worse than no number. We link to the official schedule instead — that is also why this sheet has no copyright issue: courthouse addresses and case-type assignments are facts.
Does it cover federal court?
No. This is Los Angeles County Superior Court only. Federal filing in the Central District of California works differently.
